For nearly thirty years, Amelia Handegan has run her Charleston-based interior design firm. Throughout her career she has had the privilege of working on many of Charleston's nationally recognized historic homes. In addition to her historic commissions, her vision and talents have informed a wide array of residential and commercial projects throughout the nation and abroad. Her work has appeared in such publications as Architectural Digest, Veranda, House Beautiful and British House and Garden. Handegan has been included in House Beautiful' s 100 Best Designers in America list and the Robb Report's Guide to the World's Top 40 Interior Designers.
Most recognized for her painterly sensibilities, deft and extraordinary use of color, comfortable elegance, and quiet drama, Amelia's work also reflects her innate ability to bring together a balanced mix of styles, periods, and ethnic origins. Acute sensitivity to texture and light evoke an aura to her interior landscapes - the outcome unique and eminently livable. She describes her approach to design as "intuitive", and defines her signature style as "one foot in the past and one foot in the future".
Her seven person design firm is located in the heart of Charleston's emerging Design District on Upper King Street. Amelia's design studio possesses an ever expanding collection of antique and architectural treasures from her travels that is open by appointment only.
